In the beginning...

Good Afternoon World,

As of this Semester, I am beginning an exciting new adventure, as I prepare for my trip to South Korea. This is a completely new experience for me as I have only been out of the country once (and let's be honest, I don't consider a vacation in the Bahamas much of a world travelling experience). While I'm nervous about this new experience, I also am excited to start this journey with current and future colleagues and friends.

Maybe if I explain a little bit about myself, you might see why I'm somewhat nervous;

I grew up in the small town of Needmore, PA on a 120 acre beef farm. People from my neck of the woods aren't necessarily the most "outgoing". Most folks stay in the county and only leave for groceries, and most other shopping needs (since our county doesn't have a Walmart, mall, or just about any other major store, we do have a Giant though, which made the front page new for about a month while it was being built). But I digress; the fact is most people don't leave the county, the area, and almost definitely not the country. So to represent my county in a way that few others before me have, it is a huge honor to me.

My family also makes it a point to not leave the local area. My family is originally from Frederick, Md. My grandfather takes pride in the fact that he can trace our family all the way back to when we first came to America, and you know where we got off the boat...... Maryland, where we migrated to the area around Frederick County, and that's where we've been ever since. So, as you can tell, my family is not considered the most adventurous people. The last person in our family to leave the country (Other than our trip to the Bahamas) was my grandfather, who went to Germany while he was in the army. So, the fact that I signed up to go all the way around the world to South Korea, has my family confused, excited, and nervous all at the same time.

I should also mention that I am not the biggest fan of flying, so, I am prepared to admit that I might have to give the death grip to someone's hand during take off and landing (I'm looking at you, Tyler!!!)

So now that you know about me, I'd like to encourage you to continue to follow my blog, and watch as I stumble my way through this next chapter in my life. You can follow me on twitter @ Howie_plumcrazy or follow our class @ #AgEd2Korea

( Here is my first Korean Dinner, can anybody say Seafood gopdol........ Really does someone know how to pronounce that?)
